When Cultures Meet

Every year in Uganda there is a dance collaboration between Uganda and Norway. Makerere  University Department of Performing Arts and Film and the Norwegian College of Dance respectively.

DSC_0564aAbove are some of the  performances famous about Kintu and Nambi, a folktale about from Buganda. It’s about how the first man on earth, Kintu, meets and marries Nambi, the daughter of Ggulu the creator of all things who lives in heaven.

DSC_0459aThe other is the legend of the spear and the bead, another popular folktale from  northern Uganda. It is a story about Labongo and Gipir, two brothers torn by  rash emotional decisions and revenge.
